Cleveland Heights Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Ashley Aniton

Ashley Aniton has led two student organizations at Heights High.

She is the former president of the Minority Student Achievement Network, an advocacy group for students at Heights High that describes itself as a "national coalition of 25 multiracial, suburban-urban school districts." She and the group participated in volunteer projects, including the “Flip this Yard” program, where several students manicured the lawn of two seniors in Cleveland Heights and University Heights.

The 17-year-old is now president of student council and is a co-captain on a community tennis team. One of her favorite activities is volunteering at McGregor Nursing Home in East Cleveland.

“I’m a really outgoing person, and I really like meeting people,” she said. “A lot of people who live there don’t have family, so it’s nice to be with them.”

Ashley will attend DePaul University in Chicago in the fall and study international relations. She wants to one day work for the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).

“I want to help other cultures,” she said.
