The senior at Heights High started the IT Club at his school

Cleveland Heights Patch Whiz Kid of the Week: Carlin Jackson

  • Started his school’s IT Club 
  • Studied two hours each day for a month and passed the CompTIA A+ test to become certified in computer installation, networking and troubleshooting

Carlin Jackson uses his love of computers to bring innovative ideas to Heights High.

Carlin started the school’s IT Club last year. This year, working with two other students, the club changed its name and started offering computer support and repair to students and staff before and after school.

The club also maintains the website for the school’s Instrumental Music Department.

"I’ve always known what I wanted to do," Carlin said. "Now that I’m a senior, I’m ready to take the next step.”

Carlin graduates this year and plans to attend Case Western Reserve University. The credits from his two-year Cisco Networking Academy class at Heights will transfer toward a college degree in computer science. Carlin plans to major in computer engineering, too. After that, he has his eyes on receiving a MBA and JD from the university. 

“The end game?" Carlin said. "I want to own an IT service company."
