Bipartisan lawmakers urge Ohio Dep. of Transportation to halt, revoke Flock permits (10tv.com) — Columbus residents are at the center of Ohio's growing fight over Flock automated license plate readers, as state lawmakers push to halt permits and revoke existing ones on public roads. Columbus' own Flock program is paused after concerns about potential misuse, even as city leaders tout its role in solving violent crimes and locating vulnerable residents.

Ohio State University, three other Ohio universities receive an 'F' in latest free speech rankings (wtol.com) — Students and families in Columbus may want to know Ohio State University received an "F" in a new national campus free speech ranking, dropping sharply from last year. The report, based on student surveys, also grades other Ohio colleges and comes as new state rules on diversity, tenure, and classroom discussion reshape higher education.
   

3. Ohio Supreme Court clarifies sex offender registration rules (wtrf.com) — From Columbus, the Ohio Supreme Court has clarified that sex offenders must register in any county where they physically work for more than brief periods, even on temporary assignments. This ruling tightens statewide registration rules and could affect how law enforcement and employers handle offenders who travel for jobs or seasonal work.
   

4. Ohio delays SNAP ban on sugary drinks at federal request (limaohio.com) — Low-income Columbus households using SNAP won't see a planned October 1 ban on buying certain sugary fountain and carbonated drinks take effect just yet. Federal officials asked Ohio to delay the new restriction while they complete a public comment process, leaving the timing of any future changes to SNAP purchases still uncertain.
