Wrecking Crew Does Its Thing
Former Portage Trail Building comes down to make way for new development.
Regular travelers along Portage Trail probably noticed some new activity near 11th Street on Portage Trail as the long-declining and now condemned Portage Trail Building and adjacent structures were demolished last week, and is continuing this week.
The city bought the foreclosed property at a sheriff’s auction “about a year and a half ago,” said Cuyahoga Falls Director of Development Susan Truby.
As tired as the building looked outside, “You should’ve been inside, it was even worse,” Truby said. “The state condemned the building as well.”
“What we’re going to be doing is creating a request for proposals and we’ll be mailing them out to area developers and see what kind of proposals we get back,” Truby said.
“It’s a great visible location because its about a half-mile from what will be the new Portage Crossing at State and Portage Trail. We think it will be a really good location on Portage Trail for redevelopment.”
