Police say an argument escalated into a fight outside the victim's home before the shooting, and the suspect remains jailed on bond with a court date set for October 15.

Delphos Ave. welfare check shifting into community conversation (dayton247now.com) β Dayton residents are being urged to watch out for vulnerable children after police found six siblings living alone without utilities in a boarded-up Delphos Avenue house. With charges under review, the city and Montgomery County Children's Services are helping the family secure housing and schooling, while Mayor Shenise Turner-Sloss and police stress calling authorities whenever you suspect kids may be unsafe.

3. Residents express concerns about stalled Dayton public hospital project (whio.com) β Dayton residents packed a City Commission meeting to demand progress on the new public hospital they approved with a property tax levy, but a key vote was delayed because there weren't enough eligible commissioners present. City staff say they're vetting board members now, and the commission plans to take up the emergency resolution again next week, which will determine when the long-promised facility can finally move forward.

Cannabis dispensary planned for former Frisch's site (cincinnati.com) β A cannabis company that already runs a cultivation facility on Springfield Street in Dayton is expanding its footprint using former Frisch's Big Boy locations, including a planned dispensary in Clermont County and another future site in Dayton. The Union Township shop just cleared a key state licensing hurdle and aims to open in spring 2027, serving both medical and recreational customers once fully approved.

Local girl combating Period Poverty with new initiative (k991fm.com) β In Dayton, a 12-year-old girl is leading a growing effort to supply free menstrual products to local students, especially those younger than sixth grade. Partnering with advocates and Miss Ohio USA, she's collected tens of thousands of donated items and plans to meet with the Dayton School Board about distributing them, while still accepting contributions through an Amazon wish list.
