Elyria man racks up fifth OVI after allegedly falling asleep at the wheel (morningjournal.com) — An Elyria man was arrested after police say they found him asleep in his running car in a travel lane on state Route 57 near Chestnut Ridge Road, leading to his fifth OVI charge. Officers reported finding suspected cocaine in his vehicle, and he now faces multiple felony counts while being held on a $250,000 bond ahead of an Elyria Municipal Court appearance.

Dog abandoned at Lorain skating rink needs a new home — again (fox8.com) — An Elyria-based animal rescue is once again searching for the right home for Skates, the dog abandoned behind a Lorain skating rink and later returned after an adoption didn’t work out. Trainers and Friendship APL staff are emphasizing he needs a committed adopter ready for ongoing training, structure, and plenty of time, especially from retirees or remote workers in the Elyria area.
   

4. A record 48 high schools will participate in 2026-27 Playhouse Square Dazzle Awards (freshwatercleveland.com) — Elyria Catholic High School students will be part of a record 48 Northeast Ohio schools participating in Playhouse Square’s 2026–27 Dazzle Awards, celebrating high school musical theater. The program offers workshops, classes, and a major May 2027 awards ceremony, giving Elyria performers a chance to learn from professionals and potentially advance to the national Jimmy Awards.
   

5. Lorain County sees lowest price for diesel gas at $5.67 in week ending Sept. 19 (loraintimes.com) — Lorain County diesel prices recently averaged $6.42 per gallon, with Elyria among the listed cities where drivers reported some of the lower local rates. The report, based on GasBuddy submissions, shows how Elyria’s prices compare with other nearby communities and the statewide average, helping residents gauge where filling up might cost a bit less.
