• Wyatt Captures U23 Greco-Roman World Trials Title, Earns Spot on Team USA (bellarmine.edu) — A major wrestling milestone just unfolded in Geneva, where Bellarmine’s Keenan Wyatt won the 87 kg Greco-Roman title at the 2026 U23 World Team Trials to secure a spot on Team USA. The tournament at SPIRE brought top young wrestlers from around the country, with several of Wyatt’s Bellarmine teammates also placing or competing strongly. 
• Sheriff details crime-fighting efforts (gazettenews.com) — People held in city jails in Ashtabula, Conneaut and Geneva are often stuck there because the crowded Ashtabula County Jail has no open beds, driving calls for a major jail expansion. Sheriff William Niemi detailed how overcrowding, rising crime, and funding challenges affect inmate handling, drug enforcement, and staffing decisions, and suggested local governments consider pooling resources for more efficient law enforcement.
• $4 million project underway to spruce up Ashtabula downtown (news5cleveland.com) — Downtown Ashtabula is getting a $4 million boost, and Geneva is also in line for Appalachian Community Grant funding to improve its waterfront or downtown. Sidewalks and storefronts on Main Avenue are being rebuilt under tight fall deadlines, with local business owners eager for the long-awaited facelift. Similar grants are helping nearby Conneaut and Geneva-on-the-Lake, too.
