• Emergency ops center in Ravenna Twp. to stage Portage EMA drill (record-courier.com) — If you drive between Ravenna and Kent on Route 59, expect extra emergency-vehicle activity and possible slowdowns the morning of Sept. 9 as Portage County runs a full-scale disaster drill at the Emergency Operations Center. More than 100 first responders will simulate tornado and hazardous materials scenarios to test the county's readiness without disrupting normal city services.
   

• Spartans Fall to #15 Louisville in Home Opener - Michigan State University Athletics (msuspartans.com) — Michigan State field hockey dropped its home opener to No. 15 Louisville, but the Spartans' next stop is Kent, where they'll face Kent State on Friday, Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. Local fans can watch a ranked opponent's recent conqueror come to town as Kent State looks to defend home turf against a Big Ten visitor.
   

• Kent State student experiences 'ultimate redemption' earning degree (record-courier.com) — A Kent State University student with autism has just earned his exercise science degree and is now pursuing further studies on campus to become a physical therapy assistant, showing what's possible for students with disabilities in Kent. His family's support, years of therapy, and his father's new book about parenting a child with autism highlight broader lessons in resilience and acceptance.
