Stow Deals First Loss for Kent Boys' Soccer Team

Stow scored four goals in the first half against Kent Roosevelt

Kent Roosevelt boys' soccer held Stow for all but five minutes of an 80-minute game at Stanton Stadium in Kent Thursday night.

But it was during those five minutes that Stow scored four goals.

“Stow came out strong from the beginning,” said assistant coach Curtis Ahrens. “They had something to prove against us after we beat them twice last season.”

Stow scored all four goals, including one off a penalty kick, during a five-minute period toward the end of the first half.

The team never scored again. But then Kent didn't score at all, despite several shots on goal in the second half.

“We played right with them, if not played better than them, most of the game,” Ahrens said. “But for those five minutes, we broke down. We played five of the worst minutes of the season."

But, added Ahrens, "We also played 75 minutes of the best."

Ahrens said the Kent squad, undefeated with a record of 2-0-5 before Thursday’s loss against Stow, needs to build on those 75 minutes for the remainder of the season.

“I think we just need to take the positives from this kind of game and move forward,” he said.

Kent's Junior Varsity team also lost 0-4 against Stow.

Kent’s next game is at home Tuesday against Norton at 7 p.m.
