Lakewood Firefighters Battled 131 Fires In 2019
The Lakewood fire department had a busy 2019, according to statistics released by Lakewood Firefighters Local 382.
LAKEWOOD, OH — The Lakewood Fire Department responded to 131 fires in 2019, the Lakewood Firefighters Local 382 announced. There were 58 building fires throughout the year.
One of the final house fires of the year was contained on Dec. 2, 2019. A house fire broke out at a home on Warren Road on Monday. While firefighters were able to quickly contain the flames, the blaze claimed the life of one dog who was found inside the house.
A crew of 20 firefighters worked for 90 minutes to bring the blaze under control.

That was one example of the harrowing work firefighters did in 2019. According to Local 382, here's how the department's 2019 broke down:
- Total fires: 131
- Building fires: 58
- Cooking fires: 33
- Miscellaneous fires: 40
- Service calls: 267
- EMS calls: 5,259
- Total calls: 6,701
