LAKEWOOD, OH — The true-crime documentary series "The Murder Tapes" will premiere an episode focused on the 2017 killing of Maurice Goins in Lakewood. The episode will debut at 9 p.m. on Feb. 19 on the Investigation Discovery channel.
Here's how a spokesperson for the series described the episode:
"On August 6th 2017, police conduct a welfare check on Maurice Goins, a man who hadn’t been seen or heard from in a week. Body camera footage reveals what the police found at the scene: Maurice stabbed to death in his bedroom. Forensic investigators rush to the scene and detectives begin interviewing all possible leads. But with no reliable witnesses, the case goes cold for ten months. Only then does an unsuspected informant come forward and lead Lakewood PD to an all-too-familiar culprit."
Patch covered the investigation into Goins' death from the beginning through the sentencing of the accused killer. Details on Goins' death and who killed him are below.
