Lakewood Nightclub Shooter Gets 19 Year Sentence

Trevonte Jenkins was convicted of shooting into a crowd of people outside the Lakewood nightclub on October 18, 2016.

CLEVELAND, OH — Trevonte Jenkins, 23, will serve 19 years in prison after he fired into a crowd of people outside of Phantasy Nightclub in Lakewood on Oct. 8, 2016. Jenkins received his sentence from Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Judge Steve Gall on Wednesday, cleveland.com reports.

Jenkins got into an argument with his girlfriend at the nightclub on Detroit Avenue. The dispute turned physical and several people intervened. Jenkins then fled the scene.

He returned and fired several roundes from a 9mm handgun into a crowd of people outside the club. His bullets hit two people, law enforcement says.

Jenkins was found guilty of Attempted Murder, Felonious Assault, Discharge of a Firearm on or Near Prohibited Premises, Improperly Handling Firearms in a Motor Vehicle, Criminal Damaging, Domestic Violence, and Having Weapons Under Disability on May 1.

Jenkins reportedly told Gall that he is not "a bad person" during his sentencing on Wednesday, Cory Shaffer at cleveland.com reports. The plea appears to have made no impact on the judge's decision, with Gall handing down the nearly two decade sentence.
