New Food Truck Laws Approved In Lakewood
Food truck operators will now be required to get a permit from the city to operate in Lakewood.

LAKEWOOD, OH — Lakewood City Council unanimously approved a set of new regulations for food trucks operating within the municipality. The new ordinance requires food truck operators maintain up-to-date standards of safety, sanitation, and liability.
To ensure food truck operators are following those standards, they will be required to get a permit from the city's Department of Building and Housing. Acquiring the permit will require an inspection by the Lakewood Fire Department.
The cost of the permit, annually, will be $150. Lakewood-based restaurants will get a $100 discount on the permit fee.

"I think this was a great display of council and the administration working collaboratively for the best interests for the residents of Lakewood and the restaurant community. I look forward to continued dialogue on future proposals," said Councilwoman Meghan George, who proposed the legislation in the fall.

For months, George and other members of city council worked with Mayor Mike Summers to refine the legislation and offer breaks to Lakewood businesses.
"I think it was important to stagger the fees for those restaurants that have invested in our community long term with their brick and mortar restaurant," George said.
