📰 News we're reading

1. Lakewood fights against power outages – PUCO issues notice of probable noncompliance to FirstEnergy (thelandcle.org) — Lakewood officials and residents have pushed state regulators to formally question FirstEnergy over repeated, lengthy power outages that left thousands without electricity this summer. A PUCO notice of probable noncompliance now forces the Illuminating Company to respond by August 21, while city leaders continue gathering residents' stories of financial, health, and safety impacts to demand stronger reliability and communication.

2. FirstEnergy's $3.05M Lakewood forfeiture wouldn't go to customers (cleveland.com) — Lakewood residents hit by repeated power outages likely won't see any of FirstEnergy's proposed $3.05 million forfeiture, which would go to Ohio's General Revenue Fund. Despite Mayor Meghan George's request for fines plus direct refunds or bill credits, regulators so far recommend only corrective actions and the forfeiture. Any compensation for Lakewood customers would require a separate decision or legal route.

3. Kiwanis Club of Lakewood Donates Comfort Bags for Lakewood Children to Local First Responders (lakewoodobserver.com) — Lakewood's Kiwanis Club has donated "comfort bags" to the city's police and fire departments to help children during stressful emergency calls. Presented at Lakewood Park, the bags are filled with kid-friendly items meant to calm and distract young residents. The effort continues the club's long tradition of supporting Lakewood families and invites neighbors to join future service projects.

4. Seahawks camp: Hard Knocks shows Terrion Arnold pursuit; an eventful practice (tri-cityherald.com) — A standout at Seahawks training camp is wide receiver Montorie Foster Jr., a Cleveland native who once played at St. Edward High School in Lakewood. Hard Knocks is spotlighting his acrobatic catches as he fights for a roster spot, while Seattle weighs signing cornerback Terrion Arnold amid his off-field legal issues and potential placement on the NFL's exempt list.
