More youth violence prevention funding pushed by Davis-Weese (mansfieldnewsjournal.com) ā Mansfield Councilwoman Cynthia Davis-Weese is pressing for more funding aimed directly at preventing youth violence, questioning a $24,772 Project Safe Neighborhoods grant largely earmarked for crime analytics overtime. City leaders also discussed a recent police use-of-force case and upcoming community-wide conversations with local clergy as Mansfield weighs enforcement, training, and prevention priorities.

Discovery School names Kevin Clark interim head of school (mansfieldnewsjournal.com) ā Discovery School in Mansfield has appointed veteran independent-school leader Kevin Clark as interim head of school for the 2026-27 year, and families can meet him at an Aug. 18 open house on Millsboro Road. Prospective and current families are invited to tour the campus, talk with staff, and learn about academics, tuition assistance, and EdChoice options.

The Best Throwback Races for Pop-Culture Junkies (outsideonline.com) ā One of the featured throwback races is the Shawshank Hustle, returning Aug. 15, 2026 at the Ohio State Reformatory in Mansfield and winding through downtown filming sites from āThe Shawshank Redemption.ā Runners will pass familiar Mansfield landmarks like Brooksā bench and the pawn shop window before finishing back at the historic prison on the āRoad to Redemption.ā

Ohio Man Arrested After Trying to 'Return' a Live Raccoon to a Grocery Store He Claims Sold It to Him (newsbeyonddetroit.net) ā A bizarre raccoon incident at a Mansfield grocery store led to a local manās arrest on disorderly conduct and public intoxication charges after he tried to āreturnā the animal as a mis-sold ferret. Police, animal control, and amused bystanders all got involved before the raccoon was safely coaxed out and released behind the store.
