📰 News we're reading

1. Second Man Indicted In 1995 Washington County Homicides (yourradioplace.com) — Marietta officials have announced the indictment of a second man in the long-unsolved 1995 killings of a Washington County mother and her toddler son. Investigators say renewed work by the sheriff's office and state prosecutors led to new charges against a Waterford resident, following another man's 2025 conviction in the same case.

2. News 17 Sept 2026 (washingtoncountysheriff.org) — Washington County deputies logged a busy stretch of late-August and early-September calls, from disorderly conduct and domestic violence to drug possession and dog complaints, many involving Marietta residents. The jail booking list also includes several people from Marietta facing theft, OVI, probation violations, and animal-related charges, giving locals a clear snapshot of recent law enforcement activity.

3. Marietta council leaves electric aggregation plan pending (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta City Council is delaying a decision on an electric aggregation contract, saying they want more bids before locking residents into a power deal that could affect household rates. Council also reviewed the Marietta Aquatic Center's $54,000 loss, accepted a donation for children's swim lessons, and approved new spending for water plant work, street repairs, and tree maintenance around town.

4. Acton backs three-year moratorium on Washington County injection wells (wtap.com) — A proposed three-year halt on new fracking wastewater injection in Washington County could directly affect Marietta's drinking water and local gas reliability, and it now has the backing of gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton. Speaking alongside Marietta City Council President Susan Vessels and local advocates, Acton also called for a full state investigation into brine migration that residents fear could threaten area aquifers.
