1. Marietta College soccer teams fall at home (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta College's men's and women's soccer teams both dropped home matches this week, with the men falling 3-0 to Kenyon and the women losing 2-0 to Wooster. Local fans can quickly look ahead, though, as the Pioneers host Ohio Wesleyan at Marietta Field this Sunday afternoon at 4 p.m.
2. State Wildlife Officers Target Illegal Fishing and Environmental Cleanup in Fayette and Fairfield Counties (sciotopost.com) — State wildlife officers recently cited three out-of-state anglers in Devola for turtle-related violations, with all pleading guilty in Marietta Municipal Court and paying $208 each. Their case was part of a broader statewide enforcement push that also tackled unlicensed fishing, littering, wildlife cruelty and community cleanups, underscoring active conservation enforcement affecting the Marietta area.
3. BLM sells 40 oil and gas parcels in Wayne National Forest (wtap.com) — Oil and gas leases in Wayne National Forest near Marietta just brought in over $11 million, with 40 parcels covering nearly 2,800 acres auctioned to five out-of-state companies. Officials say drilling is still months or years away pending environmental reviews, while environmental advocates argue the sale threatens wildlife, air and water quality and plan a legal challenge.
4. Marietta Duck Derby to support disability advocacy (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta residents can back disability advocacy this Wednesday as hundreds of sponsored rubber ducks race down the Muskingum River to raise money for Disability Rights Ohio. With help from the Marietta High School Tiger Navy, the event offers cash prizes, livestream viewing, and an easy way to support legal advocacy for people with disabilities statewide.
5. Local students on SNHU honor rolls (mariettatimes.com) — Several Marietta students have earned spots on Southern New Hampshire University's Summer 2026 Dean's and President's lists, reflecting strong academic performance. Alongside high-achieving classmates from nearby towns, these local honorees brought home recognition for GPAs above 3.5, giving families and neighbors another reason to celebrate local students' hard work.
