Washington County Releases Election Information
Here's what voters in Marietta and Belpre need to know about this upcoming election.

MARIETTA, OH — For those who aren’t sick and tired of politics, it’s time to vote again in Marietta! Our local primary election will be held on May 4. There are no county-wide initiatives here in Washington County, and most races are uncontested. This is going to be a very short ticket, so short, not every polling location will be open.

Here are the polling locations: the Belpre Church of Christ, the First Church of the Nazarene in Marietta, the Knights of Columbus hall in Marietta, the Marietta Township Recreation Center in Reno, the Porterfield Baptist Church in Little Hocking, and the Washington County Fairgrounds.

Voters in the townships of Newport and Lawrence will be voting in Reno at the Marietta Township Recreation Center. Voters in Decatur Township will vote at the Porterfield Baptist Church.

- A proposed five-year 0.75% earned income levy for the Marietta City School District.
- There are three levies concerning emergency services in Marietta Township. The levies are meant to benefit fire protection, ambulance, and emergency medical services in the township. They each propose upping property taxes by between 5- to 16- cents per $100 of property valuation. If they all pass, property taxes go up 31 cents per $100 of property value.
Republican voters in Belpre have a number of local contested races.
- Larry Miller and Donna Martin are both running for president of the city council.
- Alison Holland and Tina Nolan are both running for Auditor.
- David Ferguson and John Ruth are both running for member of council at large.
- There is a proposed tax levy on the ballots of a number of Belpre townships to provide and maintain emergency medical services. The levy would tax property owners 26 cents for every $100 of property valuation.
- Some voters in Belpre will be voting on whether to approve a liquor license for a proposed restaurant on Washington Boulevard.
The deadline to register to vote in the primary is April 5, early voting starts the next day.
