MARIETTA, OH — There is a lot going on around Marietta this week. Mayor Josh Schlicher sat down to chat with Patch about what's going on around town. As always, there is a lot going on behind the scenes.

New Business

- The work at the aquatic center is ongoing, it should be finished in time for the grand opening this weekend. "It opens on Saturday, May 29th. We're making final preparations for that." He says they're looking good so far.
- The city is working on a property at 7th and Putnam Street. They are developing it into a perpetual green space. "We're going to try to make it to where it blends in with the college, what they've done down the street. It's going to be a welcoming place for historic downtown." They're working on removing the hazards so they can take care of the property.
- This week Marietta work crews are continuing to hit the downtown area hard for the All-Out Rollout project. This is a citywide program where crews go street to street, filling potholes, fixing parking lots, landscaping, replacing street signs, updating the lighting, repainting crosswalks. "It's a huge maintenance program." This week the city is finishing up Pike and Green Streets. They'll also be starting on Second Street and other locations downtown.
- The city will be installing 50 bike racks downtown. Schlicher says the funding for the bike racks was secured by Marietta Main Street, they're just putting them in.
- The signal at the intersection at Market and Franklin Streets is now a flashing red, four-way stop.
- The mayor says they have some city commissions and boards that need people. The fair housing board is in desperate need of help. They only have two people, they need five. The city's Recreation Committee needs people too. The Tree Commission will also be in need new members soon. Schlicher asks folks who want to get involved in their community to help out. "It's not a huge commitment." Anyone interested should call City Hall (740) 373-1387 and ask for the mayor.
Ongoing Projects
- Improvements to the city's wastewater plant.
- Various road and drainage projects.
- There is work ongoing on the city cemeteries and the city parks.
- The city is continuing to work on the planning and fundraising for the Start Westward Monument project.
