Find Your Furever Family at Gallery One
Gallery One is hosting a pet adoption event in conjunction with the animal rescue volunteers at Marilyn's Voice, Sat., July 11, 2015, 12-3pm
Gallery One is hosting a pet adoption event on Saturday, July 11, 2015 from Noon until 3 p.m. in conjunction with the animal rescue volunteers from Marilyn’s Voice. Admission is free, and the public is invited to meet, greet and interact with some adorable adoptable pets. Bring your family; just don’t be surprised if someone new wants to join your pack! (Adoptions are not handled on-site, but applications will be available.)
“There is an old saying that you can pick your friends, but you can’t pick your family. We beg to differ,” said Norah Lynne Brown, Gallery One vice president and co-founder. “And, as it happens, ‘your family’ can also sometimes choose you. The last time we sponsored this adoption event, two of the adoptable rescues, Gretchen and Kenzie, immediately chose, claimed and refused to leave the persons who soon became their forever family. For the humans, it was a mutual case of love at first sight. Each of them had recently lost older beloved pets. And Kenzie and Gretchen both seemed to sense that their adoption was a fait accompli.”
Marilyn’s Voice rescues dogs from puppy mills and other dire circumstances, rehabilitates and re-homes them. It was named in honor of Marilyn, a tiny breeder dog rescued from a puppy mill where she had undergone a “de-barking” procedure to silence her (a cruel but common puppy mill practice). Complications led to Marilyn’s untimely death, but not before she had become a certified therapy dog who brought cheer into the lives of many patients and nursing home residents with whom she empathized. The volunteers of Marilyn’s Voice have made it their mission to become her “voice” and the voice of other mistreated dogs by working to end Ohio’s cruel puppy mill industry and by rescuing, fostering and permanently re-homing dogs in need. A 100% volunteer organization supported by adoption fees and donations, it is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization registered in the State of Ohio.
