Williams works in workforce development while pursuing public affairs studies, and McGruder is growing her hairstyling business through business administration classes. The awards were presented during the EmpowHER event hosted by New Directions.

Mount Vernon Community Band Holding Concert at Ariel-Foundation Park (wmvo.com) ā Mount Vernon residents can enjoy a free Mount Vernon Community Band concert this Sunday, June 7, at 4 p.m. at Ariel-Foundation Parkās Park National Bank Pavilion. Bring lawn chairs or blankets and settle in for patriotic tunes, classic band pieces, and family-friendly favorites as the group opens its summer concert season.

Ohio State Alumni Club of Knox County awards $18,500 in scholarships for 2026-27 (yourohionews.com) ā Mount Vernon students are among nine Knox County graduates receiving $18,500 in scholarships from the Ohio State University Alumni Club of Knox County for the 2026ā27 school year. Several Mount Vernon High School grads earned awards, including the clubās top āBig Ten Thousandā scholarship. Funding comes from club memberships, donations, and the annual Buckeye Spirit Event each October.

4. Berkshire's catching evolution complete, key in Madison's softball run (mansfieldnewsjournal.com) ā Madisonās softball team has surged to the state tournament thanks in part to freshman Makena Berkshireās successful move from third base to catcher. After early struggles, she regained confidence at third, then returned behind the plate in a May 9 game against Mount Vernon and has since become a defensive standout. Her growth now anchors Madisonās regional championship run.
