Black bear in Tuscarawas County adds to increasing number of bear sightings in Ohio (wjer.com) — A small black bear briefly wandered through a south-side New Philadelphia neighborhood near Springbrook and Broadway Thursday morning before safely returning to the woods. Police received several calls, but no damage or injuries were reported. State wildlife officials say bear sightings are rising statewide and offer AWARE tips so residents know how to react if they encounter one. 
2. Yvonne Ann Beery Brown (dominionpost.com) — Family and friends in New Philadelphia are mourning Yvonne Ann Beery Brown, whose daughter lives here while Yvonne spent her later years in Wooster. The 91-year-old West Virginia native is remembered for her devotion to family, especially her daughter and granddaughter in Ohio. Per her wishes, no public services will be held.
3. One airlifted following three-vehicle crash at SR 39 intersection (cantonrep.com) — Four people were hospitalized after a three-vehicle crash Thursday at SR 39 and Schilling Hill Road in the New Philadelphia area, including one driver airlifted to Akron. State troopers say a northbound Subaru from Pittsburgh failed to yield at a stop sign and was struck by a box truck, which then hit a straight truck. All drivers and a passenger were transported for treatment.
4. Father and son tales of raccoons, rattlesnakes and Ohio steelhead (beaconjournal.com) — A former Ohio wildlife leader’s son now serves as Summit County’s wildlife officer, carrying on his late father’s conservation legacy that helped create Ohio’s famed steelhead fishery.
