1. Retired Warren detective sues Niles over crash (tribtoday.com) — A retired Warren police detective is suing the city of Niles, its police department, and several officials over a June crash he says was caused by an obscured concrete barrier on Mahoning Avenue. He alleges the city negligently maintained the roadway and mishandled the crash investigation, and is seeking payment for RV damage, emotional distress, and internal affairs probes of involved officers.
   

2. Traffic signal improvement project underway in Niles (wkbn.com) — Drivers in Niles should expect delays on Main Street as a $2.2 million, 10‑month project rebuilds seven traffic signals from State Street to North Road. The work will upgrade timing, improve pedestrian crossings, add ADA accessibility, and move many wires underground to reduce storm-related outages, according to Mayor Steve Mientkiewicz.
   

3. OSHP reminds drivers of school bus safety laws ahead of school year (wfmj.com) — With the new school year approaching, Ohio State Highway Patrol is urging drivers in Trumbull County and across the state to obey school bus laws, including stopping at least 10 feet from buses with red lights flashing. Recent crash data show dozens of local bus-related accidents, and troopers stress that compliance is critical to protecting students getting on and off buses.
   

4. Karl R. Von Schwarz, North Jackson, Ohio (wkbn.com) — Niles native Karl R. “King Karl” Von Schwarz, 92, who later made his home in North Jackson, has passed away after a long life of family devotion, community service, and work at General Motors Lordstown. He leaves behind children in North Jackson and Columbus, a brother in Niles, and a large extended family who remember his love of golf, storytelling, and friendly competition.
