Jim Tressel Kicks Off Men's Challenge Fundraising Efforts

Inaugural event a success

Canton, Ohio- Thursday night, Youngstown State University President and former Ohio State University football coach Jim Tressel spoke on the importance of excellence. He was the featured speaker at the inaugural Men’s Challenge fundraising kick-off event held at the McKinley Grand in downtown Canton.
President Tressel started the evening by sharing how he learned of the impact Men’s Challenge is having in Ohio. In his speech, Tressel shared his top five indicators that predict an individual’s success. It is, he said, determined by holding God’s hand/selflessness, grit, curiosity, talent and hard work. He then went on to say that those who serve in, and partner with, Men’s Challenge embody the number one trait, being selfless.
“Having Jim as our keynote speaker, at our first event sets the tone for success,” said Fundraising Committee Chairman Dustin Burgess. “His message of being selfless is what Men’s Challenge is all about. Our goal is to increase funding, so we can do more to help unlock the chains of poverty and joblessness that so many men in our area are experiencing.”
Burgess said the organization was very pleased with the turnout. He estimated the crowd to be about 300 with nearly $68,000 of the $100,000 goal being raised that evening.
To learn more about the Men’s Challenge or to donate toward the $100,000 goal, Burgess encouraged people to visit their website, menschallenge.org, or to call 330-821-6367.
Men’s Challenge is a Christ-based 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose goal is empower the “unemployable” men so they can fulfill their destinies as providers and protectors of their families, Burgess said.
