Local business celebrates trees

St. Joseph Federal Credit Union distributes evergreens to local 4th graders as part of National Credit Union Youth Month & Arbor Day

Canton, OH – “I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree.” The first line of this poem was penned by Joyce Kilmer in 1913.

Our country’s affection for trees is long standing. It gained momentum during the green revival of the ‘70s and is now the at the “root” of celebrations during the month of April, when tree lovers are encouraged to do more than just hug a tree, but to plant one too.

With that spirit in mind, St. Joseph Federal Credit Union CEO Cari Huthmacher is once again pleased to announce its sponsorship of the Fourth Grade Foresters Project.

“As a sponsor of this project, STJ underwrites the cost of getting evergreen trees that the 4th grade students at Our Lady of Peace, St. Joan of Arc, Louisville Elementary and St. Michael’s will then plant,” Huthmacher said. A total of 335 trees will be distributed.

It is a great program, and Huthmacher added that it’s a really a perfect fit for STJ. “Trees are vital to our society for many reasons not the least of which is providing paper that is used to print money.”

The last Friday in April is always designated as Ohio’s Arbor Day. That is the day the 4th graders will receive the 12”-18” tree seedlings, she said.
