Painesville City Schools drops uniforms, raises sports fees amid $4M state funding cut (cleveland19.com) — Painesville families will see school uniforms eliminated and sports participation fees jump sharply this year after a $4 million cut in state funding to Painesville City Schools. District leaders have already cut staff and benefits and are returning a narrowly defeated earned income tax levy to the November ballot, warning that more program and building changes could follow if it fails again.

Painesville plans zipline adventure area, pavilion at Kiwanis Recreation Park (cleveland.com) — Painesville is exploring a new zipline adventure area and pavilion at Kiwanis Recreation Park, aiming to give local kids and families another place to play and gather. City Council has only approved applying for a state NatureWorks grant so far, meaning construction would still need future funding and a separate council vote before anything is built.
4. Health district reports first rabid bat in Lake County since 2022 (news-herald.com) — Lake County health officials have confirmed the county’s first rabid bat since 2022, found in a Painesville home, and are urging residents to take bat encounters seriously. They advise carefully capturing any bat found indoors, contacting the health department to see if testing is needed, and keeping pets’ rabies vaccinations up to date to protect families.

Doctor provides funds to secure new sign for Madison Historical Society (news-herald.com) — A longtime Madison podiatrist personally funded a new hand-carved sign for the Madison Historical Society and continues giving back across Lake County. In addition to donations for park improvements, he now volunteers at the Lake County Free Clinic in Painesville and at Project Hope for the Homeless in Painesville Township, supporting vulnerable residents with free care and services.
