2. Wellsville among communities receiving CDBG funds (reviewonline.com) — Salem is set to receive $110,000 in federal CDBG money, plus more than $270,000 in local matching funds, to rebuild Hawley Avenue between East Third and East Sixth streets, with work expected to bid next year and finish in 2027. County commissioners also advanced similar projects in Wellsville and Columbiana and handled other business, including praising a bus driver who helped a dog-attack victim.

Quakers get on the road to regionals (salemnews.net) — Salem High’s track and field teams turned a relocated district meet into a showcase, earning five district titles and eight more regional berths at Austintown Fitch. FOP Quaker Lodge honors fallen peace officers (salemnews.net) — Local law enforcement officers and federal officials gathered Thursday at the Salem Golf Club for the Fraternal Order of Police Quaker Lodge 88’s annual National Peace Officer Memorial Service. The ceremony honored officers nationwide who died in the line of duty over the past year, with Salem’s own retired Lt. Donn Beeson and regional prosecutors and agents taking part in the tribute.

Applications for downtown funds available June 1 (salemnews.net) — Downtown Salem property and business owners can start applying June 1 for new county grants to upgrade buildings and signage, with awards up to $50,000 for renovations. The Columbiana County Port Authority program targets seven walkable downtowns, aiming to cut vacancies, boost storefront appeal, and strengthen long-term economic activity across communities including Salem.
