The man appeared in court via video conference and waived his right to a preliminary court hearing.

SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — A man accused of stealing a Shaker Heights police cruiser and crashing it into two other police vehicles made his first court appearance Tuesday.

Antwuan Brown, 23, waived his right to a preliminary court hearing during a video conference from the Shaker Heights jail, reported Cleveland.com. Brown is in jail on a bond of $40,000 and is facing attempted burglary charges after the Thursday incident.

The incident started when Brown was trying to enter the Greenview Day Treatment Center on the 14000 block of Southington Road during a fire drill last week. Police were called around 9:30 Thursday morning and set up a perimeter around the facility to search for the suspect.

An officer then found the suspect in a nearby parking lot underneath a vehicle, police said. The man then slid out from underneath the vehicle and got into an empty, unlocked police cruiser with the keys inside. Brown drove the car into two others before he was arrested, police said.

During the collision one police officer was injured and transported to the hospital with minor injuries.
