4 Most Interesting Stories in Solon in 2016

A road rage incident becomes a vicious assault, a man beats his ex-fiance, Solon students become National Merit semifinalists and more.

SOLON, OH - This year was not our finest. As a nation, we lost John Glenn, David Bowie, and Prince. We went through a tumultuous and scarring election, and ultimately 2016 didn't reward us with a whole lot. Well...besides the end of the Cleveland curse, with LeBron James hoisting a tear stained Larry O'Brien trophy above his head in Oakland, California.

Even if this year wasn't the astounding 12-months that we were all hoping for, it did provide some interesting news along the way. Unfortunately, some of those stories were criminal in nature and Solon had its fair share of shocking crime stories this year.

To help you remember everything from January to December, we've perused our list of stories from 2016 and are collecting a few of the weirdest, exciting, feel-good stories of the year.

  • Solon Road Rage Incident Becomes Vicious Roadside Assault - An irate man followed a woman onto SR 91, threw snow at her, and then repeatedly punched her in the face. Bystanders broke up the fight and pulled the man off of her. Police then arrested the assailant.
  • A Look at Solon's Five Largest Employers - We dug into the city's numbers and looked at the five largest job creators in Solon for 2016. Our short profiles included some of the fresh news about each company that was floating about at the time.
  • 20 Solon High School Students Named National Merit Semifinalists - Twenty members of Solon High School's senior class were named semi-finalists in the 2017 National Merit Scholarship Competition. These students earned scores on the PSAT taken in their junior year that was among the highest in the state and qualified them as a National Merit Scholar semifinalist.
  • Solon Man Accused of Assaulting Pregnant Ex-Fiancé - The man grabbed his ex by her throat, slammed her head against the refrigerator, and punched her in the stomach. The woman was six weeks pregnant with the man's child.
