Solon Named Best Place To Raise Family In Northeast Ohio

SOLON, OH — Solon is one of those communities that racks up tons of awards for its school system and quality of life and the city's trophy shelf just got a little more crowded. Readers of the magazine Northeast Ohio Parent named Solon one of the two best towns to raise a family in for Northeast Ohio.

The magazine notes that the award was originally slated to be given to just one community, but there was a virtual tie between Solon and Rocky River. The magazine decided to award the title of "best town to raise a family in" to both cities.

In describing why Solon won the award, the magazine writes, "Solon offers amenities for families of all ages and interests." It then highlights the Home Days festival, the citywide Snowman Contest, and the bevy of other city-supported family-friendly activities.

Solon has a strange, list-based rivalry with Rocky River brewing. In December 2016, the website niche.com ranked Northeast Ohio's suburbs, and placed Solon third, behind Shaker Heights and Rocky River. However, in the seven months since niche.com first announced its listing of the region's best suburbs, Solon has remained in the third slot, while Rocky River has fallen to eighth. Hudson surged to the top of the list, displacing Shaker Heights (which fell to second).
