Solon Schools Plan For Fall Reopening

SOLON, OH — The Solon Schools are preparing for classes to resume in the fall, even as the new coronavirus continues to muddy the future of in-person education.

The district said it is planning for a variety of contingencies, including having all students in a school building in the fall, continuing remote learning or a hybrid model that combines in-person learning with remote education.

"The district is developing plans for each of these options. It is still too early to know with any certainty which plan will be launched in August and whether we will need to implement more than one of the plans throughout the school year depending on changing public health circumstances," the district said in a report to the Solon Board of Education.

Gov. Mike DeWine has signaled he would like in-person education to resume in the fall, with the caveat that an uptick in COVID-19 cases could alter the state's plans.

The district has also been collecting input from Solon families about their experience with remote learning during the COVID-19 pandemic. The survey also included questions about what the district should do in the fall.

"The deadline to complete the survey was June 5. The district is compiling the survey results, which together with input from our staff and administrative team, will be used as plans are developed for the 2020-21 school year," the district said in its report to the board.
