Highland Girl Scouts build victory garden at McDowell-Phillips House (yourohionews.com) β Highland High School Girl Scouts spent the year creating a World Warβera style victory garden at Medina's McDowell-Phillips House, donating fresh produce to local neighbors. When they turned to Strongsville-based Kalinich Fence Co. for help, the owner opened his facility, taught them fencing skills, and donated all materials so they could hand-build a protective garden fence.

Wanted man in car filled with crack cocaine pipes arrested in Berea (cleveland.com) β A 35-year-old man from Strongsville was arrested in Berea after police stopped a car and found multiple crack pipes and Chore Boy scrubbers commonly used with crack cocaine. The Strongsville man had four active warrants and initially gave officers a false name before admitting his identity, while the driver was cited for driving with an expired license.

Underage drinkers cited after sorry attempts to hide alcohol outside loud party in Berea (cleveland.com) β Police in Berea cited a 19-year-old Strongsville woman and a 20-year-old Michigan man for underage possession of alcohol after a loud party on East Fifth Avenue. Officers say both tried unsuccessfully to hide their drinks, including beer and a vodka lemonade, before being confronted and given court dates.

Highland names Anthony Ocacio girls basketball coach (yourohionews.com) β A former assistant coach from Strongsville High School, Anthony Ocacio, has been hired to lead the Highland High School girls varsity basketball program. Ocacio, a Brunswick teacher and former head coach there, brings award-winning experience and a focus on player development, organization, and positive team culture to Highland's program.
