At Bier Haus, the Fries are Sweet and the Menu's a Treat

The Strongsville Gourmet might just have a new favorite restaurant

I can easily say that out of all the restaurants I’ve visited while doing Best Bites, Bier Haus Euro-American Bistro has impressed me the most. That’s really saying a lot because all of my stops have been great dining experiences. Strongsville isn’t hurting when it comes to food.

It’s easy to miss Bier Haus as it humbly sits in your typical, ordinary-looking strip at 17962 Pearl Rd. I know I did as I drove past it even with my GPS!

Don’t be fooled by its nondescript exterior. Walking into the restaurant will reveal a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

My waitress was charming and very knowledgeable on the menu. I hate it when I visit a place for the first time, ask the server questions about the menu and they either shy away from answering or simply say "everything's good."

After reading the menu and debating such yummy sounding dishes such as the Meatloaf Head-wich (beer battered onion rings, coleslaw, toasted marble rye and whole grain mustard aioli) and the Wise-Wurst Sausage (white German sausage, fire roasted peppers, sauerkraut and mustard aioli) I found myself torn between the Smoked Bratwurst and the Schnitzel Sub. I love bratwurst but the sub sounded intriguing. My waitress nudged me to the sub and I’m glad she did.

I must give the chef props for reinventing the traditional fare and making their dishes exciting and different. My Schnitzel Sub was gorgeous to look at and twice as good to eat. A perfectly cooked and tasty breaded pork cutlet is topped with feta cheese, sweet roasted peppers, lettuce, tomato, pickle and honey mustard aioli. It was delicious.

And as good as it was, it was topped by the side dish, sweet potato fries, which were wonderful and the best I’ve ever had. The secret: they’re lightly covered in tempura batter and dusted with cinnamon and brown sugar. Oh, I need more of these soon!

My friend ordered one of the appetizers, Pan Seared Potato Pancake, (I know I would have ordered this dish if she didn’t). Again, it is not what you would expect. The potato pancakes are actually more like potato crepes, topped with slow cooked pork, chive sour cream, pickled chilies and Ohio maple reduction. The chef came out to our table and talked in great detail about all the hard effort that is put into that pork. It certainly isn’t rushed! I will definitely order this on my next visit.

We were treated to the Chocolate Lava Cake. Oh my, how sinful was this dessert?! It was truly hot stuff. The moment you cut into the cake with your fork a lava of liquid chocolate oozes out. This is a scrumptious must. Don’t pass it up.

With creative and amazing food and a terrific, friendly staff, I can’t wait to pay another visit to this Bier Haus.
