"A young person’s death is always tragic and a loss like this can have a profound effect on students. It is important that we recognize this loss and offer help," Strongsville Superintendent Cameron Ryba said in a letter to parents on Thursday. "We suggest that you talk to your children about their feelings associated with this news and observe their reaction over the next several weeks."

The school district is bringing in crisis counselors on Thursday from the Western Cuyahoga County Crisis Counseling Team. Counselors will be available to students in the Strongsville High School media center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Counselors will also be available through the beginning of next week. Ryba also suggested students contact the Strongsville High Guidance Department with any additional help they may need. The department can be contacted at 440-572-7103.

Ryba also asked parents to watch for signs of withdrawal, aggression, and expression of anger in children as a result of the tragedy. Parents are encouraged to talk with their children and to normalize their reactions to what happened.

"Finally, it goes without saying that we, the Strongsville School community, are devastated regarding the news of Kailee’s death," Ryba said in his letter. "We will all need to keep those affected in our thoughts as we move forward."

The Strongsville community rallied around the Mayher family on social media.

Albion Road was closed overnight and into Thursday morning, Fox 8 reports. It reopened early on Thursday.
