Here are the top stories in Toledo today:

  1. A 16-year-old was shot in East Toledo early Saturday morning. The shooting occurred in the 200 block of Cyril. Toledo Police transported the child to the hospital where their condition is unknown. (13abc Action News)
  2. Chris Norton, the star of Netflix's "7 Yards," is coming to Toledo to receive the Richard K. Ransom Award at this year's "Home for Good Gala" put on by Adopt America Network. Norton defied the odds by walking at his graduation when he was given a 3% chance to ever move again following a football injury. He and his wife have given 5 children forever homes through adoption.   3. Local managed-care provider Paramount Advantage is conducting an inquiry into whether Ohio Medicaid Director Maureen Corcoran might have violated her duties. The inquiry is part of a lawsuit filed by ProMedica claiming it was subjected to biased practices by Ohio Medicaid in favor of large out-of-state corporations. (WTOL 11)
  4. 41-year-old Michael McCarter of Toledo has died as the result of a crash with a semi-truck that occurred Friday night. Toledo Police report the semi lost control and crossed the median traveling westbound on the ramp from I-75 North to I-475 West. The victim's car was struck and pinned under the semi for more than an hour. (13abc)
  5. The Ohio Department of Education has released its annual report card which shows Toledo Public Schools has increased its graduation rate. TPS is now 2nd of the 8 major urban cities in Ohio for four-year graduations. (WNWO nbc24)

  • Around 30 workers at the Stericycle plant off of Alexis Road have been on strike since last weekend. The group is a part of Teamster's Local 20 and sources at Stericycle report the strike is a result of a change to the company's health care provider. (WTOL 11)
  • Beginning Friday night a stretch of I-475 in Toledo will be closed for a bridge straightening project by the Ohio Department of Transportation. The closure will occur between I-75 and US-23 through Monday, October 25. (13abc)
  • The University of Toledo Medical Center is now offering a novel, non-surgical treatment procedure for emphysema. The process is called a bronchoscopic lung volume reduction and UTMC is the only hospital in Northwest Ohio offering the procedure. (13abc)
