Today's riddle: What has a neck but no head? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. The Ever-Growing Art of Pickleball (toledocitypaper.com) — Toledo's love of pickleball now has an 8-foot, locally built pickleball statue along the Glass City Riverwalk near Toledo Pickle on Water Street. Created by Toledo artist Dean Davis with area companies and Metroparks Toledo, the piece is meant purely for fun and to draw families to the riverfront. You can spot it from the bridge or up close between the parking lot and Maumee River.
2. East Palestine whistleblower to test air, soil after Brent Industries explosions (wkyc.com) — South Toledo residents will see independent air, soil, and water testing this Saturday near the Brent Industries plant after the deadly Aug. 18 explosions and fire, despite earlier government tests finding no hazards. Scientist Scott Smith, known for work in East Palestine, will sample around the South Avenue site as neighbors and city council members push for extra reassurance. The blast remains under investigation by local officials and federal agents.
3. Toledo changes course on demolition damage complaints after winter incident and 11 Investigates' questions (wtol.com) — Toledo officials are changing how they handle damage caused by city-ordered demolitions, tapping a nearly $3 million nuisance-abatement fund and reconsidering previously denied claims. City Council members, frustrated by uncompensated homeowners like a couple whose porch was damaged, are demanding explanations from the administration and pushing for faster relief. The city says it's now prioritizing "doing right" over relying on legal immunity.
4. Toledo court unveils renovated domestic violence waiting room (toledoblade.com subscription) — Victims of domestic violence coming to Toledo Municipal Court now have a newly renovated waiting room designed to keep them separated from alleged abusers and more comfortable during long waits. The space adds calming décor, children's toys, charging stations, and room for advocates and prosecutors to meet privately. Court leaders and local officials say it underscores Toledo's commitment to supporting victims through the legal process.
5. Toledo woman missing for two weeks, mother searching for answers (13abc.com) — Toledo police and a local family are urgently asking for help finding 25-year-old Kahli Cluckey, who's been missing for two weeks after last being seen near Cottage Street. Relatives have been posting flyers along Cherry Street and searching across Toledo, worried about her safety and health. Anyone with information is urged to call Toledo Police at 419-245-3142.
