Here are the top stories today in Toledo:
- Acting principal and Toledo School for the Arts artistic director David Saygers has been placed on administrative leave following an altercation with a student on Tuesday. Saygers will be replaced by Jose Hernandez during his absence. The incident occurred during a walkout by some students during class. (13abc Action News)
- UAW Local 14 president Tony Totty says Toledo's GM Powertrain Plant will eventually begin making electric motors to keep up with industry demands. Totty is confident the amount of workers at the plant will not be affected by the transition, though some people fear that electric automotive manufacturing requires only about 70% of the current workforce. (WTOL)
- Lucas County received $1.2 million from Clean Ohio to go toward the Toledo Metropark system. In the past, such funds have been used to create new parks such as Howard Marsh and the Class City Metropark, but the money will also be used for conservation efforts. (13abc Action News)
- 53-year-old Toledoan William J. Brewer was apprehended by a Findlay Police Department K-9 unit on Friday in the 1400 block of North Main Street. Brewer, who was caught stealing $5000 worth of cigarettes, was injured during his arrest and eventually transferred to St. Vincent Medical Center in Toledo. (WKTN Radio)
- Toledo Police have confirmed a 30-year-old man was shot and killed in East Toledo on Caledonia Street near Noravan on Thursday. The shooting occurred inside a house, with neighbors telling TPD they heard about 6-7 shots fired. No suspects have been apprehended. (WTOL)

- Toledo is expanding its "trash trappers" program, which started just this past June. The devices are placed in area waterways and serve to literally trap trash before it can further pollute the environment. (13abc Action News)
- Current Toledo Fire Chief Brian Byrd has been named the city's new Safety Director. Chief Byrd and Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz are tackling the city's violence with more than just extra officers: programs dealing with mental health and poverty will also be employed. (13abc Action News)
- The annual Focus Show is happening from November 15 through December 10 at the University of Toledo. Featuring 141 pieces of artwork from students at 17 different high schools in the area, the show believes that art and artists have the power to heal, inspire, provoke, challenge, and offer hope. - Toledo's non-police anti-crime task force the Violence Interrupters have already lost half its workforce. The program can be exhausting, requiring Interrupters to walk 8-9 miles per night. However, city officials report being pleased with the program's success, and the high turnover is not necessarily unexpected. (13abc Action News)
