📰 News we're reading

1. Party in the Park hailed as a downtown Toledo success story (toledoblade.com) — Downtown Toledo's free Party in the Park series packed Promenade Park this summer, drawing more than 100,000 visitors and boosting nearby restaurants and bars. Organizers credit local bands, food trucks, breweries, and the new Glass City Riverwalk segment for making Friday nights on the riverfront a reliable destination. They say even people who just come downtown and skip the concert still help strengthen the city's core.

2. Lane closures begin at Douglas-Monroe intersection while safety upgrades start (wtol.com) — Drivers in Toledo should expect lane closures and shifting traffic patterns for about six weeks at the busy Douglas Road and Monroe Street intersection as the city installs new medians, upgraded signals, and safer crosswalks. The $2.4 million safety-focused work, tied to Vision Zero goals, also includes resurfacing nearby roadway and is intended to reduce crashes for both drivers and pedestrians.

3. One of two sisters hit in Toledo crosswalk returns to school (13abc.com) — A Toledo kindergartener has returned to St. Benedict Catholic School days after she and her older sister were struck in a marked crosswalk near Hawkins Elementary on Bancroft Street. Toledo police are still investigating the crash, while classmates, staff, and the community rally around the recovering 11-year-old with counseling support and practical help for the family.

4. TFRD searches for two people known to stay inside St. Agnes Church after fire, demolition (13abc.com) — Toledo Fire & Rescue crews are still searching for two people known to stay inside St. Agnes Church before it burned and was demolished, and they have not confirmed whether the pair were inside during the fire. Working with Toledo Police, code officials, and canine teams, investigators are combing debris and checking hospitals and shelters while asking residents to share any information.

5. TPD officer cleared of administrative violations following April arrest (wtol.com) — An internal investigation has cleared Toledo Police Officer Eli McCord of administrative violations stemming from an April domestic incident in Waterville. Investigators cited insufficient evidence that he was the primary aggressor or acted with intentional misconduct, and the 12-year homicide unit veteran had been relieved of duty while the review was underway.
