Here are the top stories in Toledo today:
- Detectives are investigating after a man was shot early Friday morning in West Toledo at the 1600 block of Avondale around 4:15 AM. Toledo Police transported the man to a nearby hospital and his condition is unknown. (13abc Action News)
- On Thursday the Neighborhood Health Association held a prayer service for community well-being, as some disturbing statistics have come to light. This year Toledo has broken its homicide record by November, Lucas County ranks 72nd out of Ohio's 88 counties in terms of health outcomes, and there has been a 62% increase in domestic violence fatalities in Ohio as compared to two years ago. - The Port of Toledo is enjoying a robust shipping season, surpassing a 10 million tonnage mark not seen since 2014. The Toledo site is the largest land mass port on the Great Lakes and supports 7,000 jobs and approximately $1 billion in annual impact. New government grants are creating even more jobs, including construction crews, surveyors, and engineers. (13abc Action News)
- Joe Guerrero, gym teacher and basketball coach at Bowsher High School, has organized a fund raiser for a student who lost her mother to an unsolved shooting homicide in November on Vance. Coach Guerrero opened a page on the student's behalf on crowdfunding site GoFundMe that so far has raised $1,000. (WTOL)
- Santa and Mrs. Claus will be touring Toledo's Point Place neighborhood from now until Christmas Eve. Keep a look out for a specially-made holiday float that St. Nick and his better half will be riding on to pass out candy and toys to those who have been good all year. (WTOL)
