Here are the top stories in Toledo today:
- A portion of the Ohio Turnpike was closed near Maumee after a semi-truck crashed and caught fire early Wednesday morning. The crash is still being investigated and no injuries were reported. (WTOL)
- Toledoan Deshawn Easterling is speaking out against the landlords of his apartment complex, Beal Properties, for poor home conditions that led to a severe injury. In July, a portion of ceiling fell on Easterling, causing him to experience severe pain requiring ongoing medical attention. After receiving no response from Beal Properties, a similar incident happened to Easterling four months later and has affected his business. (13abc Action News)
- After experiencing a few setbacks due to weather and unexpected costs, the artists behind the Glass City River Wall have started a Kickstarter fund to get the community's help in finishing the project. The mural is about 85% done and the fundraiser has a goal of $50,000. (WTOL)
- Toledo Public Schools is conducting an investigation into allegations that a Whittier Elementary teacher made an inappropriate comment to a 5th grade student. The child's mother recorded a conversation involving the teacher where it appears the teacher admits to scolding the student for playing with a water bottle, saying "I said I would stick it up your butt." (13abc Action News)
- The Toledo City Council is weighing the pros and cons of passing new ordinances and permit requirements for homes used as short-term rental properties such as Airbnb or Vrbo. Some council members state the regulations will promote safety while others think new restrictions are cumbersome and redundant. (WNWO NBC 24)

- The Toledo Ballet's annual production of The Nutcracker Returns to the Stranahan Theatre December 10-12. With 81 annual performances, the Toledo Ballet holds the record for longest consecutive production of The Nutcracker in the nation. (Toledo City Paper)
- The University of Toledo's Ritter Planetarium is playing the children's show "Santa's Secret Star" on Fridays and Saturdays through December 18. The show is about Santa and Rudolph finding their way home using constellations and tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for children, seniors, and UToledo community members. (13abc Action News)
- Lucas County Canine Care and Control (LC4) has been seeing an increase in the amount of dogs with serious medical needs, including fractures from abuse and being severely underweight. LC4 has an account called the "Cutie's Fund" where donations can be made to help these animals with everything from allergy tests, blood work, prescription food, and emergency surgery. (13abc Action News)
- The Toledo Police Department will face off against the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department for the annual Battle of the Badges hockey game at the Huntington Center this Saturday. Tickets for the game are $20 and also cover the Toledo Walleye game scheduled for later in the day. (13abc Action News)
