Here are the top five stories in Toledo today:
- 2021 saw 868 reported acts of sexual misconduct made by prisoners of the Toledo Correctional Institution against guards, none of which were prosecuted. Ohio State Representative Paula Hicks-Hudson is calling for use of the court system to enforce the laws against such behavior as a solution. (WTOL)
- The Old West End Association held a meeting Wednesday night with Toledo city leaders, Toledo Police, and Safety Director Brian Byrd of the Glenwood Lutheran Church to discuss the problem of violence in the historic neighborhood. The meeting comes after the horrific shooting death of 10-year-old Damia Ezell that occurred February 13, 2022 at the corner of Collingwood and Delaware. (WTOL)
- The Toledo Lucas County Public Library is celebrating Black History Month by displaying a series of portraits of Black leaders. Artist Robert David Vanitvelt used house paint to create over 60 portraits including President Barack Obama, Malcolm X, and Emmet Till. (WNWO NBC 24)
- Toledo Jeep plant workers will be receiving a check for $14,670 as part of their profit sharing benefits, the largest of its kind in 35 years. The Stellantis company made the announcement Wednesday, with 43,000 North American employees receiving the benefit. (13abc Action News)
- London Mitchell has been a staple of Northwest Ohio news radio since the 1960s and will now have a new radio show on Towpath Radio based out of Grand Rapids, Ohio. Mitchell's previous station announced a change in format in early February and the new program begins February 25. (BG Independent Media)
