🌱 Toledo Museum To Exhibit Rare Art + TPS Concerned With New Proposal

Good morning, friends! It's me, Brad King, your host of the Daily. Keep reading to find out everything you need to know about what's going on around town. In this issue, you'll find:

  • Toledo Public Schools Board member Sheena Barnes and others have expressed their concern over a controversial Ohio Board of Education proposal limiting the definition of gender and requiring school officials to "out" their students.
  • Culver's in Oregon hosted a fundraiser Tuesday to benefit the family of Ben and Max Morrissey, who were killed in the BP-Husky Toledo Refinery accident last week.
  • The Toledo Museum of Art will host several pieces from its conservation vault, including the only spun fiberglass dress in the world.

  1. The Culver's in Oregon held a fundraiser Tuesday to benefit the Morrissey family after "brothers Max and Ben were killed in last week's refinery fire." The restaurant, who pledged 20% of its profits to the family, said sales were tripled with the outpouring of community support. (WNWO)
  2. The Toledo City Council has delayed the vote to partner with RIP Medical Debt to eliminate local medical debt using funds from the American Rescue Plan Act until October 11. 25,000 Toledo families have qualified for the $1.4 million plan. (WTOL)
  3. The Toledo Museum of Art will display the only "complete full-spun glass fiber dress" in the world as part of a collection of rare artwork. The "State of the Art" exhibition will run from September 24 through February 5. (Toledo City Paper)
  4. Toledo School Board member Sheena Barnes has voiced her concern over a controversial Ohio Board of Education proposal that restricts the definition of gender "as being born male or female, and not something that can be assigned or change." The proposal would require school counselors to 'out' students to their parents based on any disclosures made as part of school services. (WTOL)
  5. Body cam footage has been released showing the police response after local nail tech Phong Tran was assaulted outside of Ye Olde Cock N Bull on N. Huron St. in Downtown Toledo. Suspect Andre Pitts has been indicted on a charge of felonious assault while the victim remains hospitalized on life support with a severe head injury and a reported 5% chance to live. (WTVG)
