🌱 TPD Searching For Missing Guardsman + New Perrysburg Tavern

Happy Friday, neighbors! Let's get this day started off right. Here's everything you need to know about what's happening around Toledo today.


First, today's weather:

Partly sunny with a shower. High: 48 Low: 40.


Here are the top five stories today in Toledo:

  1. Toledo Police are searching for 25-year-old National Guardsman Xiao Lu who was last seen leaving his job at the United States Post Office on South St. Clair Street in Downtown Toledo. Lu had sent two text messages to family members, one of which reportedly did not make sense, and was driving a maroon 2005 Toyota Avalon. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Crime Stoppers at 419-255-1111. (WTOL)
  2. A Toledo firefighter suffered minor injuries responding to a fire at the Regina Manor apartments Wednesday evening. The residents were permitted to return home Wednesday night and no further injuries were reported. (WTOL)
  3. The owners of Benchmark Restaurant in Perrysburg are opening a new restaurant called Harbor Town Tavern that will be located in the former Jed's on Lighthouse Way. Located south of Levis Town Center off of N. Dixie Highway, the new restaurant will be a sports bar opening the first week of January. (13abc Action News)
  4. Ohio Governor Mike DeWine will be sending additional National Guard troops to medical facilities all over the state as Ohio experiences its highest hospitalization rates of the pandemic. In addition to helping at large hospitals, the troops will also be assisting with smaller assisted living facilities. (13abc Action News)
  5. The road closure at Jefferson Avenue between Ontario and Erie streets is scheduled to be lifted today in Downtown Toledo. The route has been closed since Tuesday for building renovations and window installations. (WNWO NBC 24)

  • Toledo group "Backpacks for Humans" was formed in 2020 and has been passing out backpacks filled with survival gear and hygiene products at Uptown Green Park every Sunday. Items are provided entirely by community donations, and volunteers are always welcome to help pass out backpacks. (WTOL)
  • On Wednesday night, Steve's Sports-N-Cuts on Dorr Street hosted a community discussion regarding gun violence in the City of Toledo. Steve Parker, owner of the barbershop, has been serving the community for 15 years and hopes to see some good come from such discussions. (WTOL)
