Up and at 'em, Toledo! It's Wednesday, so let's get you started with everything you need to know going on today in Toledo.


First, today's weather:

Here are the top stories in Toledo today:

  1. Owens Community College has held its first open house since the COVID pandemic started. College Admissions Director Erin Kramer states Owens is perfect for navigating the increasingly competitive job market due to the number of programs available. (WTOL)
  2. Poison Hemlock, an invasive species from Europe, has been a growing problem in Ohio, including Toledo, this year. The plant is toxic to animals and humans if ingested by eating or even through the nose or eyes. (13abc Action News)
  3. Toledo Police Detectives are investigating three separate shootings that took place over the weekend. Two victims who were hospitalized at St. Vincent's after a shooting in the 300 block of Austin Street early Saturday morning. At 4:11 PM the same day, police responded to a person shot in the 3000 block of Algonquin Parkway. On Sunday, a juvenile was shot in the 1500 block of Brooke Park Drive. (WNWO NBC 24)
  4. Columbia Gas of Ohio crews searched the Library Village neighborhood on Saturday evening after residents reported detecting a foul smell. Toledo City Councilwoman Theresa Morris reported that Columbia Gas and Toledo's environmental services department were unable to find the source of the smell. (WTOL)
  5. A Toledo man has been arrested after stabbing through the window of a Fostoria Police cruiser and injuring the officer inside. 26-year-old Sophine Lesean Williams is due in court on charges of burglary, felonious assault, and vandalism. (13abc Action News)

  • An 18-year-old man from Maple Heights, Ohio was arrested in Erie, Michigan after leading police on a high-speed car chase through Frenchtown Township, the City of Monroe, and Erie Township. The man was arrested and had a loaded 9 mm handgun and a knife on his person. (The Monroe News)
  • The old Washington Township office building on Blessing Drive is for sale, though how it should be used is up for debate. The building was gifted to the township years ago and is valued at $235,000 by the Lucas County Auditor's Office. (WTOL)
  • The 40th annual Applebutter Fest took place over the weekend in Grand Rapids. Thousands of people enjoyed the event, which featured historical re-enactments, handmade crafts, live music, food, and the making of apple butter. (WNWO NBC 24)
  • Former Ottawa Hills Schools employee Ronald Stevens has been sentenced to a combined total of 101 years in prison. Stevens had earlier been convicted of 31 charges dealing with rape and pandering obscenity involving a minor. (13abc Action News)
