1. Council unanimously approves data center legislation « The VW independent (thevwindependent.com) — Van Wert City Council has unanimously approved three emergency ordinances clearing the way for a proposed $10 billion data center at the local Mega Site, including annexing nearly 1,000 acres from the Marsh Foundation. After extensive public comment raising concerns about utilities, noise, and process, council leaders said residents have been heard and warned that further delays could jeopardize major economic opportunities.

Monday softball: Continental clinches PCL title (crescent-news.com) — Van Wert’s softball team dominated Ottawa-Glandorf 17-0, with pitcher Emma West allowing just one hit and striking out 11 while Haley Dunlap went 5-for-5 with four RBIs. The roundup also highlights other northwest Ohio softball results, including Convoy Crestview’s comeback win over Wayne Trace.

VWCO Sheriff's activity log 5/11/2026 « The VW independent (thevwindependent.com) — Van Wert County sheriff’s deputies handled a series of calls on May 11, including a car fire involving Van Wert Fire on Van Wert Decatur Road and several responses in the City of Van Wert. Other runs ranged from alarms and trespassing complaints to a funeral escort, a village meeting, and a car-deer crash with no injuries reported.

4. Midwest Electric members donate $15,780 to organizations (limaohio.com) — Several Van Wert County nonprofits just received new grant support from Midwest Electric’s Community Connection Fund, including the YMCA, Wassenberg Art Center, 4-H Council, and the Van Wert Area Performing Arts Foundation. Funded by members rounding up their electric bills, the program distributed $15,780 to 25 groups across west-central Ohio this cycle.
