11-Year-Old Boy Steals Car, Goes On Joyride...Again

Ohio police were led on a high-speed chase before the boy crashed the car. This is the second time in two years that he's gone on a joyride.

CLEVELAND — An 11-year-old boy led police on a car chase on late Sunday night. The boy stole his parents' SUV and then crashed the vehicle in Cleveland. It wasn't his first high-speed police pursuit.

This is the same boy that led Ohio State Highway Patrol troopers on a high-speed car chase in October 2017, according to News 5. The boy stole his mother's car one other time prior to that 2017 incident.

On Sunday, Brooklyn police spotted a Dodge Durango near Memphis Avenue. The vehicle was driving recklessly and officers began to pursue the SUV. The chase reached speeds of 70 mph.

At 11:30 p.m., the boy crashed the Durango on West Schaff in Cleveland, hitting a parked truck. Luckily, the 11-year-old suffered only minor injuries and was treated at MetroHealth Medical Center.

Police said they are pursuing felony charges against the boy in juvenile court.

In October 2017, the boy stole his mother's Dodge Charger and went cruising on the west side. The boy drove the car west on I-90, through Lorain and Erie counties, according to Westlake Police. The Charger hit speeds of 96 mph during the chase.

Audio files from police dispatch 911 tapes reveal that it was anything but a joyride for other drivers. "The kid's, like, swerving in and out of traffic, and almost run a couple cars off the road," said one 911 caller. "He's swerving in and out of lanes like crazy."
