WESTLAKE, OH — A Westlake Recreation Center volunteer has chosen to self-quarantine, the city announced. Both the staffer and his father also work for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who were told to self-quarantine by the NBA. The self-quarantine is voluntary and a precaution.

"It is important to note that there are no known instances in which a Westlake resident, employee or volunteer with the city has had direct contact with anyone who has tested positive for COVID-19. The Cuyahoga County Board of Health has advised the city that there is no reason to worryabout any person who has not come into direct contact with a person who has tested positive for the virus," the city said in a statement.

The recreation center will be closed for three days starting Friday. Following a thorough cleaning, the facility should re-open on Monday, the city announced.

"The city supports the individual’s decision to self-quarantine at home and, based on the aforementioned advice from the Cuyahoga County Board of Health has no reason to believe his presence at the Rec Center posed a health risk to residents or staffers. The individual is no longer volunteering at the Rec Center. Given that there are still many questions about how this disease is transmitted, the city believes it is best to exercise an abundance of caution," the city said on its website.

As schools prepare for a mandatory three-week shutdown, other Northeast Ohio institutions are canceling programs and events due to concern over the spread of new coronavirus, COVID-19. Several Westlake institutions are canceling or postponing programs due to concern over the virus.
