📰 News we're reading

• Help may be on the way as communities across the Tri-State push back against data centers (local12.com) — Amazon is proposing a massive 470-acre data center in Wilmington, and new federal legislation could decide whether local residents end up subsidizing its power costs. The bill, pushed by Rep. Greg Landsman, would force data centers to pay for their own electricity, ban secrecy NDAs with public officials, and order an EPA study—changes driven by pushback from Wilmington and other nearby communities.

• Lynchburg woman indicted for alleged $111,000 theft from disabled victims (wnewsj.com) — Wilmington authorities are pursuing felony charges against a Lynchburg woman accused of taking more than $111,000 from disabled adults whose finances she helped manage in Clinton County. Local police, courts, and a related civil judgment in Common Pleas Court all center this case in Wilmington, with a two-day jury trial set to begin April 27.

• PAWS Humane Society raises funds at 11th annual reverse raffle (wnewsj.com) — PAWS Humane Society’s 11th annual “No Place Like PAWS” reverse raffle in Wilmington drew strong community support at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, raising funds for local animal care. If you missed it, you can still help animals locally at Wilmington College’s Veterinarians of Tomorrow Club dog walk on May 2, benefiting PAWS and other Clinton County groups.
