Genesis fills critical mental health care gap with new youth unit (zanesvilletimesrecorder.com) — Families in and around Zanesville now have a new 14-day Youth Crisis Stabilization Unit at Genesis Behavioral Health on Maple Avenue, offering intensive support for kids ages 10–17 in mental or emotional crisis. The eight-bed unit, funded by ARPA dollars, provides therapy, schooling, and recreation, and is designed to be affordable regardless of insurance so cost doesn’t block local youth from getting care.

2. My Wife's Slaw Coleslaw Recalled For Adulteration, No Inspection (foodpoisoningbulletin.com) — A Zanesville-based company, My Wife's Slaw, has recalled all flavors and sizes of its coleslaw after it was found the products were not properly inspected, though no illnesses are reported. The jars were sold nationwide via the company’s app between April 1 and April 28, 2026. Local buyers are urged not to eat the coleslaw, discard it safely, and watch for any signs of foodborne illness.

3. East Muskingum 8th graders travel to several locations in abolitionist history (whiznews.com) — East Muskingum 8th graders spent the day visiting key Underground Railroad and abolitionist landmarks around Zanesville, including Putnam Presbyterian Church, the Stone Academy, and the Gant House. Students said seeing real hiding places used by escaping slaves made local history feel immediate and deepened their respect for those who fought for freedom.

4. Local Sports Scoreboard (Tuesday, May 12) (whiznews.com) — Zanesville’s baseball team picked up a 7–1 win on Tuesday, and several nearby schools posted strong showings across baseball, softball, and track. Local athletes from Cambridge, Philo, Rosecrans, Miller, Shenandoah, Buckeye Trail, and others also earned top finishes and advanced to district softball semifinals and track championship rounds coming up next week.
