At a Lawton Fort Sill Chamber lunch, officials urged locals to strengthen the city’s story, turn day trips into overnight stays, and press lawmakers for a larger state marketing budget.

PRESS RELEASE: Edmond doctor pays $110,000 to settle claims of drug record violations (freepressokc.com) — A spinal surgeon who operates Spine & Pain Care of Oklahoma clinics in Edmond and Lawton has paid $110,000 to resolve federal allegations of recordkeeping violations involving controlled substances. Authorities say required DEA forms, registrations, and inventories were missing for transfers to the Lawton clinic, though the doctor did not admit liability and the case will not go to court.

Governor Stitt signs bill to keep cellphones away from students during school hours (southwestledger.news) — A new Oklahoma law permanently bans student use of personal cellphones during the school day, and a MacArthur High School student in Lawton is among those worried about losing direct contact with family. Supporters say the statewide “Bell to Bell, No Cell” policy has reduced classroom distractions and boosted student interaction, while some students still fear weaker enforcement and safety concerns.

Hospital leaders praised the staff’s dedication to caring for local patients, emphasizing how deeply they value serving friends, neighbors, and families in the community.
